Learn about Dry Eye Treatment in Omaha | Omaha Extra! Talks with Dr. Anderson at MVS Vision
Kary Wurth: Welcome back to Omaha Extra! My name is Kary Wurth. Today, I’m with Dr. Meagan Anderson, she is a Doctor of Optometry here at Modern Vision Solutions, and we’re learning about dry eye disease. Can you tell us what that is?
Dr. Meagan Anderson: Yes, thanks for being here! Dry eye disease is a condition that affects a lot of people. It’s something that they say affects about 20% of adults, but we think that number is a lot higher—closer to 40%. So it’s a big deal.
Kary Wurth: And it can affect just about anybody, right?
Dr. Meagan Anderson: We’re seeing now that it actually affects children as well. We think it’s related to all the screen time—we’re not shutting our eyes as much as we should. So yes, it’s affecting everybody.
The Symptoms of Dry Eye
Kary Wurth: Okay, and what are some of the symptoms?
Dr. Meagan Anderson: Symptoms can be as obvious as just a general dry feeling—burning, itching, irritation. But it could also be other symptoms, such as blurry vision, things like that which are a little less common.
Treatments for Dry Eye
Kary Wurth: And you have some advanced treatments here that are available. Can you tell us about those?
Dr. Meagan Anderson: Yes! Most eye doctors, the first step will be an artificial tear, a warm compress. But we’re really trying to push the envelope with dry eye treatments.
Some of the advanced treatments we’re doing now include:
- Lipiflow, a treatment which provides heat and massage to the eyelids to help with the meibomian glands, or oil glands of the eyelids.
- Blephex, which is a spinning brush that cleans off any debris on the eyelashes and eyelids.
- IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), which helps with inflammation on the eyelids.
Kary Wurth: Great! Learn more at mvsvision.com, and we’ll see you next time!
